A recent report says Trump privately told people around him that within about 10 years, he expects to be dead, framing it as ‘that will be me’ while watching TV coverage of former President Jimmy Carter lying in state.
The prediction, from an apparent source familiar with his comments, appears in a New York Magazine profile, “The Superhuman President.”
According to the same account, the remark was made at Mar-a-Lago and “freaked out” some of his buddies, especially because some in his inner circle want him to try to sidestep the Constitution and run for president again in 2028.
In a similar vein, Trump has publicly said he doubts he’ll go to Heaven, notably in an October 2025 exchange with reporters aboard Air Force One, where he said, “I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in Heaven. I think I’m maybe not Heaven-bound.”
He revisited similar themes at the National Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 5, 2026, saying, “I just don’t think I qualify,” and later adding he wasn’t sure the “pure in heart” verse applied to him.
